Rio de Esperanza provides a holistic, non-12 step, evidence based approach to addictions. Our treatment approach is based on the belief that addictions control all aspects of a person’s life. We offer comprehensive, integrated services targeting excellence in decision making, interpersonal relations, and personal coping skills as the means to the restoration of personal control.
Suffering from addictions means moving from wellness, to physical, emotional, spiritual and mental illness. Each of these life steps is addressed in our program approach that has come to be known as Life Circle . At Rio de Esperanza you learn to connect your life steps to your community. Our treatment program guides you to be both sober and well. It means changing your thoughts to change your life and to go from merely (or barely) surviving to truly thriving – from dysfunctional behaviors to those that heal the soul wound.
At Rio de Esperanza you are free to examine your present circle of life and to allow the very real prospect of sobriety, recovery, and community healing as integral components to reaching true, enduring wellness. Sobriety, recovery, and community healing are intertwined paths you walk to enter your own healing of the soul wound. All the life steps work simultaneously at Rio de Esperanza to recreate – just for you – a new Life Circle.
The Rio de Esperanza team of professionals offers you a path to wellness and sobriety that begins prior to admission. A team member speak to you, gather basic information and provide answers to questions that you may have regarding our treatment program. Immediately upon arrival, you will meet with your team of professionals. The team will include your primary therapist, your addiction counselor, your expressive art therapist, your nurse or psychiatric nurse practitioner, and your behavioral health paraprofessional.
Your team will complete a comprehensive evaluation during your first four days that include the steps to your new Life Circle activities: physical, emotional, spiritual and mental. This evaluation will assess diagnostic complexities, questions of psychiatric and/or addiction dependency, coexisting disorders of trauma, eating disorders, mood disorders, and return to community and work questions.
The Life Circle evaluation assesses all aspects of your life and may include a physical examination, medical, psychiatric and psychological evaluation with special attention to nutrition, recreation and fitness, sexual relationships and family dynamics. A “Soul Wound” assessment is the second phase of the process. It is designed to assess specific questions and problems identified in the Life Circle evaluation with additional specific consultations to achieve your assessment goals. The last day of your four day evaluation will be completed with the Path of Trust exercise with your treatment team , marking the beginning of your path to healing.
The Life Circle treatment program has four phases of healing with a daily schedule that may vary depending on the time of year and weather conditions. Each phase incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, psycho-educational groups, gender specific groups, process groups, acupuncture, expressive arts, and individual therapy. Integrated therapies are individualized and may include acupuncture, EMDR, equine assisted therapy, neurofeedback, and yoga and meditation.
The Life Circle healing process has four phases:

Phase III: Acceptance
Phase IV: Re-Creating your new Life Circle
Continued care begins at the time of intake, through admission and treatment and continues until discharge. At discharge you will have a clear, defined individualized written plan for ongoing healing in your community. Prior to leaving
Rio de Esperanza you will be provided a transitional process that will include your chosen local practitioner and a host of other persons and systems of support in your home community. Further, we stand prepared to maintain supportive contact with you after your return home to ensure the most successful return to your new Life Circle.
